How to Plan Social Media Content

A simple framework for planning a month of social media content without burning out or posting randomly.

Pick the platforms that match your audience

You don't need to be everywhere. Choose the one or two platforms where your customers actually spend time. For many El Paso businesses, that's Instagram and Facebook; for others, TikTok or YouTube.

Doing one platform well beats doing four poorly. Start narrow and expand only when you can keep up.

Define a few content pillars

Content pillars are the recurring themes your posts rotate through — for example: behind-the-scenes, customer stories, tips, and promotions. Three to five pillars keep your feed varied without being random.

Pillars make planning faster: each week, you just pick a post from each pillar instead of staring at a blank calendar.

Build a monthly calendar

Plan a month at a time. A calendar lets you batch your creation, align posts with promotions or events, and avoid the daily scramble of figuring out what to post.

Include the date, platform, pillar, caption idea, and any asset you need to create. A few minutes of planning saves hours of last-minute work.

Batch, schedule, and review

Create your posts in batches — a dedicated afternoon beats a little each day. Schedule them in advance so they go out consistently even when you're busy.

At the end of each month, review what performed best and adjust. Consistency and learning beat perfection on the first try.
